Places are locations where people go for different activities. Learning place words helps you give directions, talk about your city, and describe where you go.

Places in Town

Shop/Store: A place where you buy things Example: “I buy food at the grocery shop.”

Supermarket: A big shop where you buy food and household items Example: “We go to the supermarket once a week.”

Restaurant: A place where you pay to eat meals Example: “We eat dinner at a restaurant on Fridays.”

Road: A long, hard surface for traveling Example: “The road goes from the city to the village.”

Market: A place where people sell fresh food, clothes, etc. Example: “I buy fresh fruit at the market.”

Talking About Places

To ask about places, you can say:

  • “Where is the…?” (Where is the bank?)
  • “How do I get to…?” (How do I get to the park?)
  • “Is there a… near here?” (Is there a restaurant near here?)

To give directions, you can say:

  • “It’s next to…” (It’s next to the library)
  • “It’s opposite…” (It’s opposite the bank)
  • “It’s between… and…” (It’s between the school and the park)
  • “Go straight and turn left/right” (Go straight and turn left at the traffic light)
