The Human Body

The human body has many parts. Learning these words helps you talk about health and describe people.

Head and Face

Head: The top part of your body Example: “My head hurts today.”

Hair: Grows on your head Example: “She has long black hair.”

Face: The front part of your head Example: “He has a round face.”

Eye: You see with your eyes Example: “She has blue eyes.”

Ear: You hear with your ears Example: “I clean my ears every day.”

Nose: You smell with your nose Example: “My nose is runny because I have a cold.”

Mouth: You eat and speak with your mouth Example: “Please close your mouth when you eat.”

Lip: The edges of your mouth Example: “Her lips are red.”

Tooth/Teeth: Hard white parts in your mouth for chewing Example: “I brush my teeth twice a day.”

Tongue: The soft part in your mouth for tasting Example: “My tongue burns when I eat spicy food.”

Body Parts

Neck: Connects your head to your body Example: “My neck is stiff from sleeping badly.”

Shoulder: Top part of your arm Example: “I carry my bag on my right shoulder.”

Arm: From shoulder to hand Example: “She broke her arm playing sports.”

Elbow: Middle joint of your arm Example: “Don’t put your elbows on the table.”

Hand: At the end of your arm, with fingers Example: “I wash my hands before eating.”

Finger: The five parts at the end of your hand Example: “I wear a ring on this finger.”

Chest: Front upper part of your body Example: “My chest hurts when I cough.”

Back: Opposite of chest, behind your body Example: “My back hurts from sitting too long.”

Stomach: Front middle part of your body Example: “I have a full stomach after dinner.”

Leg: From hip to foot Example: “My legs are tired from walking.”

Knee: Middle joint of your leg Example: “I hurt my knee playing football.”

Foot/Feet: At the end of your legs Example: “My feet hurt in these shoes.”

Toe: The five parts at the end of each foot Example: “I broke my toe when I hit the table.”

Pain: When something hurts Example: “I feel pain in my back.”

Sick: Not feeling well Example: “I’m sick today and can’t go to work.”

Healthy: Feeling good, not sick Example: “Eating vegetables keeps you healthy.”
